For Adults with Barriers to Employment
Clients must be referred to VRS by a doctor or Human Services Agency worker, and be legally eligible to work in the U.S.
VRS Client Services include:
- Vocational Counseling
- Job Placement and Coaching
- Financial Empowerment Project
- Catering Connection
Our experienced Vocational Rehabilitation Counselors use interviews, "real work" assessments and vocational testing to focus on clients' abilities and potential, creating a career action plan for every client.
Job Placement and Coaching
Our Job Developers provide a range of services, advancing clients to their career goals. Services may include resume development, interview assistance, job leads, and job retention with the assistance of a job coach. We connect clients with employers, and support our clients on the job with ongoing mentoring and skill-building.
Financial Empowerment Project (FEP)
Our staff and peer counselors move clients toward financial stability by reviewing eligibility for public benefit programs, advising on rules and deadlines, and assisting with required paperwork.
Our clients may be applying for benefits for the first time, applying for renewals, or transitioning into employment. FEP offers one-on-one benefits counseling, hands-on help with complex paperwork, and in-person advocacy at appointments and hearings.
FEP can assist clients seeking or receiving Social Security, Social Security Income, Social Security Disability Income, General Assistance, CalWORKS, CalFresh, State Disability and Unemployment Insurance, MediCal, MediCare, and other benefits programs.
Our WorkCenter provides hands-on work experience in our 35,000 square-foot production facility. Our workforce learns valuable job skills under close supervision, including product assembly, software packaging, shrink-wrapping, mailing, labeling, pick-up and delivery and fulfillment services.
VRS clients learn food service skills with on-the-job training in our fully-equipped industrial kitchen. In addition to food preparation, our workers learn skills from dishwashing and inventory control to driving, event set-up and cashiering.
