Stone fruits are those that have a hard pit in the center. Peaches, nectarines, plums, apricots, pluots, mangoes, and even cherries are all types of stone fruit. In California, they are “in season” during the months of May through October. This is the time when they are the most nutritious and delicious!
June's Harvest of the Month is peaches! They are a good source of vitamins and minerals, especially Vitamin A & C and potassium. Most stores carry basic types of peaches, but farmer’s markets can carry many different kinds. Make sure to check them all out! For more information on peaches, check out this informational handout from the California Department of Public health: PEACHES!
You can use your CalFresh dollars to make your purchase, and if they participate in the *Market Match program, you can get even more!
*The Market Match program offers farmer’s market customers who participate in CalFresh a dollar-for-dollar match of up to $10 when they use their EBT cards to make their purchase. So, if you spend $10 at the farmer’s market, they will give you an extra $10 to spend. Now you can try all kinds of local and seasonal fruits & vegetables!
