Emergency Fire Relief Fund for South Coast Families

On Sunday August 16, multiple fires began burning near our local communities of Pescadero, Loma Mar, and out on Highway 1 near Año Nuevo. Residents have evacuated from La Honda, Pescadero, Loma Mar, Dearborn Park, Butano Canyon, White House Canyon Road, Skyline/Portola State Park, Middleton Tract, and other surrounding areas. Firefighters have been working nonstop on the frontlines and so far there is zero containment of the fires. The CZU August Lightning Complex Fire has consumed more than 40,000 acres and more than 20,000 people have been ordered to evacuate.

Puente staff joined efforts with the Red Cross, Human Service Agency of San Mateo County and the Sheriff’s Department to set up an evacuation center at Pescadero High School. Due to the growth of the fire, the evacuation center has been moved to the Half Moon Bay High School at 1 Lewis Foster Drive. Over 60 families have been provided with hotel vouchers with the support from three different agencies, Red Cross, Puente and San Mateo County Human Services Agency. We expect to get more requests as the fire grows. Puente staff will continue staffing the evacuation center in Half Moon Bay to provide support and information to families and individuals who need a place to stay.

On Thursday morning, CAL FIRE confirmed that at least 20 structures have been destroyed with no casualties at this point.

Our community needs your support and as we get more information about specific needs, we ask for your support to help families and individuals to find a place to stay and get other essentials they need.

Will you please help these families who have lost  their homes and belongings and others who need a place to stay?

We hope that you and your family are staying safe during this crisis.

Thank you,

The Puente Team
